    Stroud
The year was 1892 when James Stroud started selling smuggled whiskey to cowboys who drove through "dry" Indian country with their herds. A wild community with several saloons soon developed until the state of Oklahoma was founded in 1907 and the newly established county was also drained.

Roy Rieves began building the Rock Cafe brick by brick in 1936. Stones that were removed from the old route when asphalting Route 66 were used. In 1939 the cafe was opened, which at times also served as a greyhound station.
Sally Carrera's character from Disney's Cars is based on current owner Dawn Welch who, like Sally in the film, is trying to save a place from oblivion. In 2008, the cafe was badly damaged in a fire, but Dawn painstakingly rebuilt it.
