The motel was opened in 1946 with 14 separate guesthouses at a time when building materials were hard to come by. All the wood came from the black market. But until someone found who was responsible for the construction, the construction could not be stopped, so Mr. Hudson, the builder, hid well. In the 1950s, business was so good that more rooms were needed and the gaps between the individual cabins, where garages were initially located, were closed with more rooms.
Mr. Hudson also built the town's first swimming pool by blasting a hole in the ground with dynamite. Ramona and Bob Lehman have owned the motel since 1971. They decorated the lobby with their collection of vintage toy trucks. The rooms are lovingly and very individually furnished. Some themed rooms like the Route 66 room are filled with old photos, so be sure to ask for one! My personal opinion: One of the best classic motels along the entire route 66.
