In pre-Reformation times there was a chapel on the Frauenberg (100.9 m) south-west of the city, which is said to have been in use in connection with the Zinna Cistercian monastery until 1642. It was called Marienkapelle or also Frauenkirche. The mountain got its name after this chapel. After relinquishment of religious use, numerous conversions and various uses probably followed. The last use was a Solms' warden's house, which existed until 1945. Around 1860, at the instigation of the count's rulers, a park-like facility was created on the Frauenberg by laying out paths, stone steps and benches. Some of the graves of the Solms family were also located here. Seven windmills are said to have once stood around Baruth. Today there are two of them. A former post mill is used as a private holiday home. The other is a stone Dutch windmill built in 1868. Wine was grown on the mountains south of Baruth. A defining element in the meadows of the glacial valley around Baruth are the avenues of the so-called Fürstenwege.
