    Henry Soulsby came to the area as a miner, but an injury forced him to look for an alternative. In 1926 he opened his petrol station, which was enlarged in 1937 but never had its own workshop. Instead, oil changes and small repairs were carried out outdoors on a ramp, which today has a special feature: an oak tree has grown in the middle since 1991.



    When his son Russell took over the gas station, he repaired cars as well as televisions and radios, which kept the business alive when Interstate took over Route 66 traffic in the 1950s. Gas station operations were only discontinued in 1991 because they could not keep up with the latest environmental protection guidelines. The station was family-owned for 65 years.
