When you drive from Zwolle to Emmeloord you will cross the Zwartewaterbrug near Hasselt. The construction of the bridge took a lot of struggle. In the Hanseatic period, plans for a bridge were blocked by trade competitor Zwolle. The first bridge was built in 1828, it was replaced in 1896.

Cycling

Parallel road over bridge is safe and comfortable for crossing Black Water. Beautiful routes on the dike on the Hasselt side towards Genne or towards Zwartewaterklooster and Zwartsluis. On the other side across the dike north towards Genemuiden or south towards Stadshagen. Also Mastenbroekerpolder in for a bit of wind ... or against.
