Volker-Johannes Trieb grew up in Worms. In 1983 he started an apprenticeship as a ceramist in Osnabrück. In 1987 Trieb moved into his first own studio there, at the old Sutthaus train station. Like his gallery, it is in its former barn. The attached garden was designed by him as an artist's garden. In 1995 a second studio was added, in the nearby Georgsmarienhütte. Above all, monumental, free-art sculptures, also made of steel and wood, are created here.

For 30 years, Trieb has been sculpturally accentuating the surrounding Dütetal, a landscape area that is partly sacred, from the Augustaschacht memorial in Holzhausen/Ohrbeck to the Hörner Bruch forest area and the Marienheim park of the former Sutthausen estate.
Since 2012, Atelier Trieb has been part of an art micronation that Volker-Johannes Trieb calls “Artokracy IKTOMIA”. He says: "A dream space, a spiritual sanctuary, a parallel world, a place of longing. An artonomy reserve. A cosmos of the magical, the mysterious.”
