The Nürtingen hydropower plant, which went into operation in 1927, greets visitors entering the city like a relic from another time. The listed building from 1925 houses a museum interior and one over 70
Year-old power generator that was once built by the Esslingen machine factory.
Below the building, a Kaplan turbine, similar to a ship's propeller, rotates in the
Neckar water. 9000 liters per second flow past the time-honored turbine and enable the generator, which has been preserved in its original state, to perform well
of 180 kilowatts. Together with the new generator installed in 1996 and the overhauled second turbine, the power plant generates 2 million kilowatt hours of electricity
per year, with an average of 10.3 cubic meters of water flowing through the system per second.
Stadtwerke Nürtingen invite school classes and youth groups to get to the bottom of the phenomenon of electricity generation from hydropower on a guided tour through the power station.
