Großpostwitz – Löbau railway line, four pillars made of sandstone with a steel truss bridge, important in terms of railway history, building history and technology history. After the weaving community of Cunewalde turned to the Saxon government in 1865 to connect to the railway network, the concession for a standard-gauge secondary railway from Großpostwitz to Obercunewalde was not granted until 1887. In 1890 the connection went into operation. After an interruption due to inflation, it was not until 1928 that the extension of the line to Löbau, which had been planned for a long time and started in 1919, took place. In the lowest section of the 19.4 kilometer long connection, the Spreeaue had to be crossed at the Bederwitz stop, for which the engineers of the Royal Saxon State Railway built a 50 meter long bridge with an open upper track at a height of nine meters on two sandstone pillars. The middle, 22.50 meter wide bridge field was spanned with a lattice framework construction. Sheet metal girders with a span of more than ten meters are connected on both sides. The bridge with its combined construction is of local and railway historical importance, and above all it is an extraordinary monument of engineering.
