It was not until 1653 that the Archbishop of Mainz, Johann Phillip von Schönbrunn, founded a parish with a catchment area as far as the Gorxheimer Valley and the Weschnitz Valley. A few years later, in 1658, the first parish church dedicated to St. Boniface was completed.
In 1783 the church was enlarged to include the choir and sacristy. The interior and facade are furnished in the baroque style of the times.
