    history

The parish of St. Martin in Pfaffenhofen made the following vow with her pastor Martin Humpf in the war year 1944: "If the parish community is spared the war damage, we build a chapel in thanksgiving to the Blessed Mother." This pledge was made by a group of the Schoenstatt Girls' Youth addressed. Many people believe that Our Lady Mary appeared here on May 13, 1940, April 25, May 25, and June 25, 1946.

The Marienfried Chapel or Gnadenkapelle ("Thrice Wonderful Mother and Mediatrix of Grace") was consecrated on 18 May 1947 with episcopal approval. On July 4, 1995, the Augsburg Diocesan Bishop Viktor Josef Dammertz named a newly built church the name "Maria, Mother of the Church" and built Marienfried as a church foundation. In the years 2010 and 2011, the Marienfried Church was completely rebuilt and rebuilt on October 23, 2011 by Bishop Konrad Zdarsa inaugurated.

In 1974, a Fatima grotto was created in the southwestern corner of the forest. The Lourdes Grotto was also established 30 years after the vow, 1974; it was integrated into the Prayer Park in 2014. On 2000, the big Freialtar was erected on the festival meadow. The Stations of the Cross - from the Gnadenkapelle in the south - is the work of the sculptor Wolfgang Klein (* 1931), built in the years 2000 to 2002.

Coming from the south on the tar road, the entrance to the Marientrail is on the left just before the end of the forest. If you take Marienfried as your starting point, the trail is on the right after the beginning of the forest about 250m south of the parking lot. Information about the event etc at: marienfried.de

The place itself is very suitable for a physical and mental rest. At the church there are toilets as well as an outside water tap for filling bottles, in case everything else should work out.
