The small ponds next to these large ones are fed by thermal springs, so they never freeze over. American slider turtles that have been released can also be found there.

From here there is a very nice view of Braunfels Castle with its pond.
Braunfels Castle is still inhabited by the royal family. There are regular tours and events at the castle.
The castle was built in 1246. In 1300 defensive towers and curtain walls were added.

Very nice idyllic place in spring / summer

Quietly situated lake, it is particularly beautiful to see how the Braunfels Castle is reflected in the water.

Certainly more beautiful in summer, but worth a visit now too. It also seems to be worthwhile for anglers, at least some have been there.

Fantastic lakes below the castle with beautiful reflections. Entry into the mine forest with great trails.

The large pond is a worthwhile goal - pay particular attention to reflections with the castle.

The pond system Großer Weiher, Eisweiher and Warmer Weiher are artificially created bodies of water.
There is no evidence of when and for what purposes these were created. In the winters around the turn of the century, wonderful ice festivals were celebrated here with lantern lighting and music, and in the summer you could go on boat trips.

As a karst spring, the human-shaped pond system is a unique feature in the Braunfels area.
This refuge has been largely reclaimed by nature over the years. The warm pond in Braunfels is embedded in the dense trees in the Iserbachtal above the road to Tiefenbach.
The ice pond across the street is an attraction for nature lovers with its remarkable bird population. Upstream of the valley lies the Great Pond, a paradise for all kinds of birds and insects.

The kingfisher, the flying gemstone, finds a habitat in the “Warm Weiher” protection and observation area at the Obermühle in Braunfels. Since the warm pond, fed by a Kast spring, does not freeze over even in harsh winters, the kingfisher finds enough food here.

The observation of the rare water rail is also a special feature of this pond. With the support of AGNU, AG Nature and Environment in Braunfels City Marketing, the open water areas were preserved, the area surrounding the ponds was maintained and biotopes were created. The conservationists have made it their task to carefully maintain this natural refuge close to the city. It is thanks to their tireless efforts that this unique protected area is now also accessible to young and old as a nature experience area.
