Tips

A real highlight of the hike is crossing the border into Italy. After a hike of almost two hours you can cross the boundary stone to South Tyrol in the middle of a beautiful mountain scenery. From there it is a good 5 minutes to the Pfitscherjochhaus, where you can enjoy traditional Italian spaghetti. Ottimo!

  • Old landmarks and a border guy's cottage. Here is the transition from a very old smuggler route over the main Alpine ridge at an altitude of 2,200 meters.

  • The Pfitscherjochhaus is a special feature of the Schlegeisspeicher. Because you cross the state border to Italy here. Accordingly, one is spoiled in the Pfitscherjochhaus after his hike with very good Italian cuisine. A culinary tip are the spaghetti or cottage macaroni.

  • Depending on which direction you come from, you see new mountains for the first time, namely Austrian or Italian.
Unfortunately, you also have to deal with a lot of people: guided groups and school classes.
But you can still find a quiet spot on the meadows around the Pfitscherjochhaus.

  • The panorama is beautiful. The catering in the Pfitschenjoch house is good. The huge number of visitors (on foot and by bike / eBike) is a bit scary.

  • The Pfitscherjoch connects the Zillertal with the South Tyrolean Pfitscher valley and is one of the most popular border crossings when crossing the Alps. People have been crossing this border for around 9,000 years, as is proven by finds from the Mesolithic.
