Until 1997, Branch height consisted of two separate reserves. With a nature-friendly design of the intersecting water discharge and a piece of former agricultural land, a beautifully contiguous nature area was created. The Meeuwenveen is a large fen (pingo) with a clear ring wall. The rest of the area consists of heather with water features and a piece of forest. The particularly varied terrain is grazed by a herd of Scottish highlanders. The landscape fits in well with the Wildenberg and Rabbinge area along the Reest.
