In the home chronicle "Westerwald" it can be read that Oberisselbach was still inhabited in 1589, but no one lived there in 1653.
It is no longer possible to reconstruct exactly what happened. According to old traditions, Oberisselbach was attacked and destroyed by the Swedes in the Thirty Years' War. When the Swedes attacked the residents, only two women were said to have saved themselves. One after Eppenrod and one after Heilberscheid. For this reason, the district of Oberisselbach was later divided between the two neighboring districts.
Since the summer of 1984, a hall cross has reminded of the place and the residents of Oberisselbach.
A forest service is held on the Oberisselbach desert on the first Sunday in September.
