Its construction date is uncertain although the pointed arch would suggest most assuredly it is from 15th century, making it a medieval bridge in its origin.

Various historians identify this as being part of or a very similar route as that of Route XIX leading from Tui passing through Ponteareas and on to Pazos de Borbén, so it would not be too far-fetched if the bridge is of Roman origin and more taking into account the number of vestiges or references of that time that appeared in Angoares. A few meters downstream from the bridge there is a rebuilt mill called Muíño do Cudieiro.
