Hardenstein Castle, built between 1345 and 1354, offers sweeping views of the green Ruhr river valley below and the forested escarpment across the river. Hard to believe you're in the heart of the former industrial center of Germany dominated by coal and steel manufacturing since the beginning of the industrial revolution.
