Kollnburg was first mentioned in documents in 1153.
The ancestors of the Kollnburg people settled on a rocky, not very fertile ridge, as the old place names Kalenberg, Kallenberg or Kahlenberg show. The beginnings of the settlement, however, probably date back to the early Carolingian period. This early settlement is explained by the fact that Kollnburg is located on the old trade route, the Bayerweg (today the well-known long-distance hiking trail from the Danube valley via Kollnburg to Bohemia), which was already of great importance at the time of the migration of peoples.
