The castle was reconstructed at the beginning of the 20th century with much effort and is absolutely worth seeing. In good weather you have a fantastic view from here over the Rhine Valley to the Black Forest and in the other direction in the Vosges.

In the low season (November - March) every first Sunday free admission !!

View and culture and shortly after the castle on lonely paths back towards the valley.

        From Wikipedia:
Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg is a castle reconstructed at the beginning of the 20th century near Orschwiller (Orschweiler) in Alsace (Bas-Rhin department), a good 10 km west of Sélestat. With around 500,000 visitors every year, it is the most visited castle in the region and one of the most frequently visited tourist spots in France.[

As a result of the Franco-Prussian War, Alsace, which had previously belonged to France, was ceded to the German Empire in 1871. In 1899, the city of Schlettstadt donated the castle to Kaiser Wilhelm II, who had it restored between 1901 and 1908 by the Berlin architect and castle researcher Bodo Ebhardt. The construction cost over two million marks, most of which had to be paid for by Alsace-Lorraine. The emperor himself financed the first work with 100,000 marks from his private coffers. The work was carried out using the most modern means. The approximately 2 km long field railway of the Hohkönigsburg was built from the quarry to the ruins; the locomotive had to be pulled up the mountain with horses. A steam engine powered a generator that produced electricity for lighting and two electric cranes.

The inauguration took place on May 13, 1908.
