An extraordinary historic grave. Hidden away in the woods, yet easily accessible on foot from the path, just a short distance across the woods.

If you didn't know it, you'd simply walk right past it.

If you turn right at the first tree stand coming from the forester's lodge and enter the forest, you'll find Goldammer's grave after a few steps.

It's hard to believe that this mystical place has survived all these years unscathed. Please take care to keep it that way. Sites like this must be preserved!

    Thank you very much.

The stone bears the following inscription:

    Bernhard von Goldammer January 23, 1847 - October 18, 1906

    To the brave hunter

    To the gamekeeper and caretaker

    his friends

The inscription reads: "To the brave hunter / To the gamekeeper and caretaker / his (sic!) friends." I could only find two references to Goldammer. He appears once in an ancient series of publications by the Duchy of Lauenburg Historical Society ("Father of the Deer of the Sachsenwald") and once in a hunting magazine ("A Red Deer Pioneer in the Sachsenwald"). However, nothing is digitized. It seems to have been some kind of 18th-century Tom Bombadil.

There aren't many man-made things that survive so long in the wild.
