Herdringen Castle was the seat of the Barons of FĂŒrstenberg and is considered one of the most important neo-Gothic secular buildings in Westphalia.
Today's palace was built between 1844 and 1853 by the Cologne cathedral master builder Ernst Friedrich Zwirner.
In the 1960s, Herdringen Castle was the location and backdrop for the Edgar Wallace films "The Black Abbot" and "The Forger of London". Most recently in 2021 for recordings of the new Sisi movie.

Unfortunately, this gem can only be seen from the outside. A visit is unfortunately not possible because it is privately owned. Still a beautiful and imposing building, which you would not expect.

The Herdringen manor, formerly known as Kettelburg and the residence of Dietrich Ketteler and his son of the same name, was first mentioned in documents in 1378. In 1618, the estate was bought by the Prince-Bishop of Paderborn, Dietrich von FĂŒrstenberg, and later passed on to his nephew Friedrich von FĂŒrstenberg. The castle in its current form was built between 1844 and 1853. The architect was the Schinkel student and Cologne Cathedral master builder Ernst August Zwirner. From 1968 to 1998, the castle was rented to a private school and served as a secondary school with boarding school.
