One of the most beautiful viewpoints in the Allgäu! To the north, the hilly foothills of the Alps spread out at your feet and in the south, the steep mountains tower over the Alpsee. You will only become aware of the dimensions when you see how tiny the famous Neuschwanstein Castle appears against the dramatic mountain backdrop.

The Füssen Calvary unites in a special way religion, nature and art (the Nazarene). The Calvary was built in the 19th century. Initiator was the then parish priest Johann Baptist Graf (1802-1862). Graf's religious life was in the tradition of Johann Michael Sailer and Christoph von Schmid. When Hohenschwangau Castle was renovated and redesigned, many painters found work in the castle and later in the design of the chapels.

The path to the Füssen calvary begins at the north side of the Frau im Berg church, which can be reached from the Tirolerstraße (B 17) on the east side of the Lechufer. Parking is available at the Lechfall (100 m) or below at the large Lech Bridge (250 m).

This is definitely unexpected part of the hike.
Physically you would definitely feel the pain similar to Jesus carrying the Cross. The path if very spiritual, and multiple small chapels with nice paining will tell the story as you progress.
Be ready, it is a steep climb.

A beautiful - and natural - footpath or way of the cross leads over the Kalvarienberg up to the summit cross plateau, from which one has a sensational view of the two castles and the Schwansee.
If you go down the rooty path / path on the other side, you get to the Schwansee with the park and can e.g. continue to Schwangau. The path is also part of the "3 Castles Tour".
