Location: Merville-Franceville-Plage, Caen, Normandy, France
Merville-Franceville-Plage is one of the many seaside resorts on the Côte Fleurie, 6 km from Cabourg and 14 km from Caen. Originally there was only a small town in Merveille. Since the addition of the seaside resort in the 19th century, the double name has been adapted, but it is now more commonly called Franceville fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merville-Franceville-Plage.
Located on the shores of Orne Bay, the town is surrounded by fields. Merville is also at the start of the Route des Marais and is the starting point for over 100 kilometers of marked trails. The Gros Banc ornithological reserve is one of the most visited places, it covers more than 1,000 hectares and offers a variety of landscapes, from the salty meadows to the mud flats.
Among the things to see are the pretty beach, the small port, and the Redoute de Merville, built in 1779 and which can be visited during the summer season during the open house. The city has a rich historical past that can be discovered in the battery museum, located less than 2 kilometers from the beach. The place has been redesigned so that you can imagine yourself at the heart of the landing.
