The castle was originally in front of the city and is surrounded by water on the castle island. There you will find the Pole Poppenspäler Museum with figures from all over the world. The annual crocus bloom in spring is famous when it blooms intensely purple in the castle park.

The castle in front of Husum is the only castle on the North Sea coast of Schleswig-Holstein. In Husum Castle you will find a museum with a roof gallery, Poppenspäler Museum, castle café, castle park and Duchess Garden as well as high-profile events.
The castle is located in the center of the city of Husum, just a few minutes' walk
from the harbor and shopping streets.
The name comes from a time when the castle was outside the city limits.

The castle in front of Husum - so called because it was before the city limits when it was built - is located in Husum in the district of North Friesland in Schleswig-Holstein.
Only the gatehouse on Schloßstraße has remained largely unchanged. It dates from 1612 and documents the joy of jewelry of that time with its tail gables and richly decorated portal. High gables and seven towers made the main building of the castle one of the most important Renaissance buildings. It served as a residence for the dukes at times and later became a widow's seat. In 1752 the complex had to undergo a thorough renovation which turned the old building into a baroque palace. The gradual renovation and restoration of the building is based on the model of this system. In 1980 the castle got its central tower back, so that it now looks like it did in 1752. The tower is a good 40 m high and is a new old symbol of the city.
The castle park attracts thousands of people every spring when millions of crocuses bloom. In late March and early April, the entire lawn area is covered with violet-colored flowers. The castle park can be reached from the castle through a sandstone portal, also from the early 17th century. Here is also the famous Storm monument by Adolf Carl Johannes Brütt (born on May 10, 1855 in Husum)
