About 2 km south of Geisenfeld, one of the largest burial mound fields in southern Germany is located in the Geichet state forest district. 185 burial mounds of a Middle Bronze Age necropolis have been preserved there over an area of 28 ha over a period of 3500 years, mainly because the forest use hardly affects the graves, but protects them from robbery or building. Today the burial ground is forested and stocked with over 100-year-old pines and spruces that are to be rejuvenated.
