The Carl-von-Stahl-Haus is located on the Torrener Joch in the Berchtesgaden Alps. The yoke, which also marks the border between Bavaria and Salzburg, separates the Göllstock from the Hagengebirge. The hut, which is also simply called the steel house, was opened in 1923. The construction of the Salzburg Alpine Club section was financed by the wealthy entrepreneur Carl von Stahl. The steel house is open all year round except for Christmas Eve. Numerous prominent peaks are waiting to be climbed in the vicinity of the hut. The Schneibstein (2276 m), which is easily visible from the hut, can be hiked within 1 ¾ hours. The way up is not particularly difficult, the Schneibstein is not wrongly considered to be the easiest 2000 meter in the Berchtesgaden Alps. The ascent to the Hohen Brett (2341 m) takes 1 ½ hours and has small passages secured by wire ropes. The transition from the Hohen Brett to the Hohen Göll (2522 m) takes another 2 hours from the Brett summit and requires a sure-footed and vertigo-free walker. In winter, ski tourers enjoy the generous rounds of the little ones and the big grater. Meat-free fans will also find some vegetarian dishes on the Stahlhaus menu.
