Overlooking Loch Oich, Invergarry Castle was once the seat of the chiefs of the MacDonnell of Glengarry clan. The castle was built as an imposing six-storey L-plan to protect its inhabitants from raids.
During the Civil War, Oliver Cromwell's troops burned the castle down. Although it was rebuilt, it was damaged again during the Jacobite risings in the 18th century.
Today the ruined castle is a scheduled monument and run as the Glengarry Castle Hotel.
