    The Pieve di Toano dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta is "the perfect, complete and intact monument of Canusian art in the Reggio Apennines". The first official document documenting the existence of the parish is a diploma of Emperor Otto II, issued on October 14, 980. It is not possible to establish exactly how long it existed because previous documents mentioning it have not been found. The simplicity of the architectural lines is striking, which give the monument particular solemnity, of a typically Romanesque-Lombard beauty. It has a hut front and a roof made of local sandstone slabs (plagues).

    The Pieve Matildica di Toano is open every Sunday from 10.00 to 19.00.
