The chapel stands on a donjon stump of a former castle complex. Remnants of the wall can still be discovered between the rocks. As early as 1651 Darstein was described as a dilapidated, uninhabited fortress. Completely abandoned in the 17th century, it was only used as a quarry.

The Burgstall Darstein is the ruin of a spur castle on a 620 meter high mountain spur near the district of Darstein in the municipality of Waffenbrunn in the Upper Palatinate district of Cham in Bavaria.
