In 1895 a 14-year-old girl and a team of oxen fetched hay from the meadow on the mountain. It was caught in a thunderstorm. The cows ran away with the wagon in a panic and seriously injured the young woman. The parents made a vow to build a chapel at the scene of the accident if the daughter would get well. The girl recovered completely from the accident and so the Lady Chapel was built.
Later the larger Fridolin chapel was built next to it. You can still see the foundation walls of the Lady Chapel next to the Lourdes grotto today. The Way of the Cross lines the path from the valley up to the former disaster site.
