The Wall of the Reformers was built in 1909 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the birth of John Calvin and the 350th anniversary of the founding of the Geneva Academy (now the University of Geneva). The monument was completed in 1917. The project, winner among 71 others in the competition, is the work of four Swiss architects. The statues were created by two French sculptors.

This monument was built in 1909 in honor of the 400th anniversary of John Calvin and the 350th anniversary of the founding of the Academy of Geneva (the University of Geneva). Inaugurated in 1917, the work includes, among other things, four monumental statues five meters high representing Guillaume Farel, Jean Calvin, Théodore de Bèze and John Knox. It is also called the international monument of the Reformation.
