"The Jewish cemetery in Alfter was first mentioned in a document in 1719. The Jewish community in Alfter was probably at least a hundred years older. Today, only the Jewish cemetery reminds us of the Jews who used to live in Alfter. The Jewish community in Alfter was violently wiped out by the Nazi regime and has not existed since 1941.

In 1949 the municipality took over the maintenance of this cemetery. She endeavors to preserve the cemetery in accordance with Jewish customs. The cemetery has been a listed monument since 1987.

The Jewish cemeteries are characterized by their simplicity. The names and dates of the dead are given on the tombstones, special signs can express the position of the dead in the community. Other jewelry is rare. The burial mounds overgrown with grass are typical.
