The origins of BOURGENAY are not known to us. It is likely that they are very old, in a region where traces of human settlement date back to prehistory (eg dolmens and menhirs in the neighboring towns of Avrillé and Bernard).

· A Benedictine Priory: · Although they allude to earlier events, the first historical documents that speak of Bourgenay date from the 12th and 13th centuries. There is talk of a Benedictine priory of the great Abbey Maillezais (South Vendée)
