The Waldmannsweiher is a "dead" branch of the Rednitz. The Rednitz originally formed two arms at this point, which flowed around an island - a so-called "Wöhr". Such waters, separated from the original river, are called "old water". The Scherbsgraben used to flow into the Waldmannsweiher.

It is named after the Fürther Magistratsrat Daniel Waldmann. The pond is about 12,000 square meters in size and about 4.5 meters deep.

The Waldmannsweiher has probably become a branch of the Rednitz due to a flood in the night of February 27-28, 1784. The chronicler Fronmüller writes in the chronicle of the city of Fürth:

The downpours were so violent that the booths and stalls in the streets, and especially in the market, were lifted from the flowing water and partly led downwards. The ice drift caused great damage. The ice floes were sometimes 8-12 feet thick. The Pegnitz Bridge, as well as a barn with a horse mill behind the upper mill, were torn away. Demolished stables, household appliances, cattle came swimming on the Rednitz. Bridges and small bridges were torn away. The flood came on the night of February 27-28 and peaked on February 28. That evening it decreased again.
