The Calais lighthouse, erected in 1848, stands proudly on the banks of the English Channel. The 55 meter high Calais Lighthouse has a great location in the middle of the city between residential buildings and opposite a church.
Its hillside location recalls that it stands on a bastion of the former fortifications of Calais.
An earlier milestone for seafarers was the summit of the Tour du Guet before the current lighthouse came into use in 1848.
