Mount Whitney Trail is the popular route if you want to summit the highest point in the contiguous United States – Mount Whitney.

The trail is non-technical, but strenuous. However, when snow or ice is on the mountain, winter mountaineering skills and equipment are necessary for safe travel. The trail is usually snow-free from July to late September. Expect to hike twelve to 14 hours to the summit and back on this 22-mile roundtrip.
