Bike Touring Highlight
Zoutelande is a village in the Dutch province of Zeeland and is one of the municipality consisting of 13 villages Veere. Zoutelande has 1.390 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2017) and consists of the nucleus and the hamlets Boudewijnskerke, Sint Janskerke, Snabbeldorp and Werendijke. Until June 30, 1966 Zoutelande was an independent municipality.
Tourism is the main source of income for today's Zoutelande. Zoutelande, together with the beaches of Dishoek and Westkapelle, is therefore called the Zeeland Riviera and, with its only southern beach in the Netherlands, is one of the most visited beach resorts on the Zeeland coast. Whole streets are rented annually to the incoming visitors. Even the farms participate in mini-camping, the so-called camping on the farm, in the tourism industry. As a special attraction in the summer ring-riding tournaments are organized.
Zoutelande is the destination of the annual Zeeland Coastal Marathon, which takes place in Burgh-Haamstede on the first weekend of October.
Just like Domburg, Zoutelande was very popular among Dutch painters at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century, and the Zeelandic light is often praised. The light on the water seems to make the sky more brilliant than anywhere else.
