Stappersven is part of the cross-border nature reserve Grenspark Kalmthoutse heide. This cross-border area is an important link in the network of internationally valuable nature reserves. It is very unique that heathland, fens, shifting dunes and forests occur contiguously and over such a large area. Many rare and vulnerable species find their home there.
Stappersven offers beautiful views. It consists of open and semi-open landscapes, with moorland moors embraced by an extensive forest area. Drift dunes, dry and moist heaths, peat bogs and structure-rich oak-birch forests are very valuable landscapes of the area. In addition, you will find forests of Scots pine and grassy ruts with pipe straw. Stappersven is one of the largest heathland fens in Flanders. (source: natuurpunt.be)
