The town of Chaitén still shows the scars of the volcanic eruptions of the Chaitén volcano. In 2008 and 2011, this volcano caused quite a bit of damage. As you go to the edge of the Rio Blanco, you will see some houses in poor condition. Chaitén offers some accommodation options. This turns out to be very useful in case of rain.
