This Hengersberg chapel is dedicated to Saint Joseph, the foster father of Jesus Christ. Like Zechariah, the father of John the Baptist, he is a man on the threshold between the Old and the New Testament. Joseph was from the house of David, one of the twelve tribes of Israel. He was a carpenter by profession and the fiancé of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The commemoration day of Saint Joseph in the calendar of saints is on March 19th, and on May 1st the church celebrates the feast of “Joseph the Worker”.
