Flowing 35 miles (56 km) through Sussex and Kent, the River Rother has been an important waterway for centuries – even the Romans used the river for shipping. Today, you are more likely to find quaint narrow boats trundling slowly up it than commercial vessels. The river runs from Rotherfield to Rye where it joins the English Channel. You will find lots of wildlife around the river, hiding amongst the reeds and lilly pads.
