You can easily reach this highlight on foot from two parking lots. Either you decide for the Suhler Hütte, see refuge Adler (1.2 kilometers) or for the somewhat closer parking space Suhler Ausspanne (1.1 kilometers). The highest point of the Rennsteig is less spectacular than you think. Finally, it is marked by a hollow pole. Nevertheless, its signage and the Rennsteig "R" are always worth a photo.

The highest point of the entire "Rennsteig" hiking trail (973 meters) is away from the Plänckners Aussicht lookout tower and rest area and is not the highest point in Thuringia at the same time. This is the Great Beerberg (983 meters), which is a few meters north of the Rennsteig from the vantage point. However, it is a high moor and not a peak with a spectacular view, such as the Schneekopf.
