One of the more gruesome attractions in Cornwall! Bodmin Jail was built in 1779 by prisoners of war and was operational until 1922. The prison was used for over 50 public hangings, for which executioners would be paid £10 per hanging.

During WWI, the prison secured two more unusual guests – the Domesday Book and Crown Jewels.

Some believe that Bodmin Jail is haunted and it is the location of many ghost stories. You can go on an After Dark Haunted Prison Tour around the jail.

The jail is undergoing renovation work and closed until May 2020. You can check their website for more information: bodminjail.org
