At Donner Pass you will find restrooms and a restaurant. It is also the location to get to the Donner Ski Ranch, who offers great food.

Pacific Crest Trail is usually through-hiked South-to-North, but this section is frequently hiked by locals as part of ascending to Donner Peak, Mt Judah, and to get to the Sierra Club Hut in the backcountry. The restaurants and ski resort facilities are usually available all year. Most days there is enough tourist traffic to hitch a ride to Norden or Truckee for resupply either via the old Donner Pass Highway 40, or the freeway. This trailhead is shared with the beginning of the Old Overland Emigrant Trail, which became the historic Lincoln Highway, the first road from the East Coast across the Sierra Nevada built in a systematic way. A few decades later the old Highway 40 then routed half a mile further north ( komoot.com/highlight/1070895 ), and in 1963 Interstate I-80 freeway was opened another mile north.
