The so-called "Hirschtor" was the access gate to the "Wildpark" or "Tiergarten" behind it.

The gate was built in 1870 by Grand Duke Nikolaus Friedrich Peter after the park had been extended to the south to today's Parkstraße through the demolition of the old outwork, an old supply yard for the palace. A new farm was also built south of Parkstrasse, which was sold to the gardener Albertzard in 1928.
The bronze stags, which were cast based on a model by Christian Daniel Rauch, referred to the character of the park behind them. Incidentally, there are similar pieces in other stately contexts, e.g. B. in Glienicker Park in Potsdam.
One day after the Second World War, in times of economic hardship and scarcity of raw materials, the deer disappeared. They had been stolen!
The gate architecture itself also gradually fell into disrepair, especially since the gate's original function was no longer important.

This stately entrance invites you to a round trip through the Rasteder Schlosspark.

From the Hirschtor there are beautiful signposted forest trails through the castle park.
