One of my favorite routes, changeable at any time, because many different routes lead over the Vossberg and at the end you always come back through the Pirschbachtal!

The Pirschbachtal is a valley floor, a former tongue of meltwater from the Third Ice Age, with a connection to the Stecknitztal - today the Elbe-Lübeck Canal - and the Einhäuser-Fredeburger-Trockental to the Ratzeburger See. The length of the valley floor is about 1.7 km and the greatest width is about 0.65 km.

The 345-hectare area just outside Mölln is once again a habitat for rare plants and animals. More than 20 years ago, the teacher Ingeborg Dittmer from Mölln had the idea of shaping the area around the Pirschbach into a biotope and striving for renaturation. Something unique has emerged in Schleswig-Holstein today.
Today, the Pirschbachtal is characterized by open grassland with tall herb meadows, species-rich wet meadows, headwaters and small alder swamp forests. A pasture concept was developed to maintain this structure. Grazing on the large area prevents reforestation and forms the basis for greater biodiversity. Tree frogs, numerous species of butterflies, storks and cranes use the meadows, they offer favorable living conditions.

The open valley is framed by healthy mixed deciduous forests. Natural deciduous forests with the main tree species, the common beech, grow on the up to 30 meter high slope edges. The old gnarled oaks and beeches, which benefit from the incidence of light in the open environment, are particularly characteristic. Dead wood forms the basis for biodiversity in the forest and serves as the elixir of life for fungi, moss, insects, birds and bats for many years.
