The Loisach-Kochelsee-Moore stretches on the doorstep of the Benediktbeuern monastery. The more than 3,600 hectares of low and high moor complex with its extraordinary flora and fauna is one of the most important moor areas in southern Germany and is particularly valuable in terms of ecology and tourism.

The Benediktbeuern Monastery and Schlehdorf Monastery have been making the moorland available for agricultural use for around 1,000 years, which has resulted in species-rich litter meadows.
