Road Cycling Highlight
The southern driveway from Kandern is eight kilometers longer than the one from the northwest via Badenweiler, so the gradient here is largely moderate and manageable even for less trained people. There is only one steeper ramp with up to twelve percent, for which you can draw strength again at several village fountains, of which at least one is always in operation - an advantage that the consistently demanding driveway via Badenweiler does not offer. The other direction of travel is generally recommended for ambitious drivers, especially since the descent to Kandern allows significantly higher speeds due to fewer bends.

The blue is an absolute recommendation for friends of crisp mountain rides. From Niederweiler are about 850 meters to overcome. From the junction above Badenweiler you drive a narrow, winding Bergsträßchen, which has a very alpine character. The maximum slope, however, barely exceeds 10%, so it is good to drive. The surface has already seen better times (09/2018) and is no pleasure on the downhill, but this can be handled elegantly, if you drive instead of the Marzeller valley to Kandern. The last 200 meters of altitude you drive down a spur road to Blauenhaus, where the road ends practically at the top of the mountain. A magnificent view over the southern Black Forest, the Rhine Valley to the Vosges Mountains and in good weather a magnificent panorama of the Alps are the reward for the strenuous climb!
