Under the old regime, the parish of Gauriac was patron of the archpriestly of Bourg. As such, Gauriac had to have a beautiful church. Built in the 12th century on an older site, there remains only primitive Romanesque construction, with a Latin cross plan, only part of the southern cross with a walled bay, the eastern part of the nave at the level of the arch triumphal topped by a gable and especially the choir. The latter is the most remarkable element. Made up of a seven-sided apse, it is vaulted in a cul-de-four and surprises with its great sobriety. Only a few decorative remains appear: balusters, sculpted capitals and an enigmatic modillion to the south. Surviving the Romanesque period, the sculpture seems to have been the victim of a chaste hammer blow. The church of Gauriac was probably damaged in the 15th and 16th centuries during the various battles that affected this country. Following a fire, it was rebuilt from 1767 to 1769 by a mason contractor, Jean Carreau. The western massif and the bell tower belong to this campaign. The nave and the aisles were also rebuilt. In the XIXth century, from 1850 to 1866, new works amounted to a few small additions. The church was then restored in 1880 then, in 1886, the interior paintings themselves were restored from 2012 to 2016. gauriac.fr/decouverte/memoire-du-village/les-batiments/175-l- church-saint-pierre.html
