The Ranger Station Santa Maria is one of two possible entrances to the Rincon de la Vieja National Park. Entry costs USD 15 per person and you must show your passport. After the hike you have to sign off with the ranger.

We booked our tickets online, but that's not strictly necessary.
Sometimes there aren't any rangers around, so you can still enter the park and pay on your way out. We were there in early December and had to cross two rivers, which are secured with ropes. The water was knee-deep, but we managed without shoes 😃.
P.S. The drive to the station is quite an adventure.
