"In the baptistery of the Dionysius Church in Kerken-Nieukerk, there were once said to have been three springs, which have since been filled in. Around 1870, during repair work, several wells were discovered in the Roman masonry in the area of the present-day baptistery. Since both references refer to the same location, it is conceivable that the terms "fountain" and "spring" are used synonymously here; it is also conceivable that the original springs were converted into springs or wells.

In a floor plan of the church drawn by Michael Buyx after 1875, two circles are drawn, which are described as "two round (fountain-like) brick depressions, diameter 4', depth 5'." It is possible that the church was built on the site of a pre-Christian place of worship, and the springs continued to be used. This would be one of the rare cases in which a natural spring was incorporated into a Christian church as a baptismal font. The Dionysius Church is located at the transition from the middle terrace to the lower terrace, which is marked by a surrounding wall and a fifteen-step staircase.

The spring has dried up. It may have been a place of worship.

The aquifer consists of sands and gravels from the lower terrace. The groundwater retaining base consists of Tertiary fine sands.
